This is one of our
most popular hikes for people who are new to the canyon. We start our hike on the
South Kaibab Trail, which offers the shortest possible route to the Colorado River
and Phantom Ranch. On the way down the trail, one will enjoy spectacular views of
Pipe Creek Canyon, Cremation Canyon, the North Rim, and Inner Gorge. Once we reach
the canyon floor, we will cross the Colorado River via a suspension bridge (stretching
440ft across and 75ft above the water). Our hike ends at Phantom Ranch where we
spend 2 nights, allowing for a full day of exploration. The hike up is on the Bright
Angel Trail. This incredible trail meanders along beautiful Pipe Creek, eventually
climbing to the South Rim.
Day 1:
Depart Flagstaff at 5am for a scenic drive to the South Rim, and the South Kaibab
Trail. This 7.0 mile long trail will bring our destination- Phantom Ranch. Phantom
Ranch is a collection of historic buildings nestled among deciduous trees along
Bright Angel Creek. We will stay for 2 nights. Here we will enjoy the rustic beauty
of the Ranch, and showers. We will also partake in dinner and conversation at the
canteen. (L) (D)
Day 2:
After a home cooked breakfast we will begin our day of exploration. There are many
options for side hikes, and depending on the time of year we will choose the perfect
hike for your group. Check out waterfalls, incredible vistas and relax by Bright
Angel Creek. (B) (L) (D)
Day 3:
Today we get to hike The Bright Angel Trail to the South Rim. We will get an early
start beginning with some time along the Colorado River. After leaving the river
the hike gains elevation following picturesque Pipe Creek. Eventually we will pass
through historic Indian Garden, and onward to the top. You will enjoy lunch on the
trail, changing views as you hike, and the reward of reaching the rim. (B) (L)
Hikers are required to carry 15-18 pounds. This includes the things you'll need
on the hike, as well as a change of clothes and toiletries for your stay.
