Yosemite - Vogelsang Peak Loop
This
breathtaking loop takes us through a variety of classic Sierra Nevada subalpine
and alpine environments, from wildflower-dotted meadows along rivers to alpine lakes
to a high mountain peak with huge 360-degree views.

The
Loop around Vogelsang begins with a casual day along the beautiful Lyell Fork of
the Tuolumne River. As you climb away from the valleys down below enjoy incredible
vistas, camping above timberline, and summiting Vogelsang. Follow creeks, swim in
mountain lakes and rest your hiking legs under starry skies. This hike is strenuous-
but worth the extra energy.

Day 1:
We will meet at the Wilderness Center near Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite National
Park at 10am. Here we will have an orientation, fit packs, and get on the trail.
Our trek begins on The John Muir Trail and travels along beautiful Tuolumne River
through Lyell Canyon. We will have plenty of time to play in the water, and enjoy
a relaxing evening at our camp near the river. 5 miles hiked (L) (D)
Day 2:
After breakfast we will begin our hike with a gradual climb out of Lyell Canyon
through Lodge pole and White Bark Pine forests. The trail takes us out of the forest
to a high point offering amazing views, and then past crystal clear mountain lakes.
We will enjoy a short visit at the Vogelsang High Sierra Camp, and then leave the
crowds behind to find our peaceful wilderness camp near Vogelsang Lake. This camp
is above tree line nestled among granite boulders. Dare to take a swim in the refreshing

Day 3:
Today's hike begins with a summit of Vogelsang Peak (11,500ft) Wow! Drink in the
views of hundreds of craggy granite peaks in every direction. As we retreat from
the summit we will hike over Vogelsang Pass, and down below tree line, and along
Lewis Creek. Departing Lewis Creek we travel north along Fletcher Creek to the west
of Vogelsang and camp at Emeric Lake (9,338ft). 9 miles hiked (B) (L) (D)

4:
Our final descent will include a hike north over Tuolumne Pass and then follow Rafferty
Creek downhill to Tuolumne Meadows. (10 miles). (B) (L)
