This excursion explores some of the best day hikes Grand Canyon North Rim has to
offer ( without carrying a heavy backpack) . Each day hike will embark
on a new journey, while returning to base camp every night. Here you will find a
delicious meal waiting next to the campfire. Some of the highlights include: a canyon
hike to the Colorado River, forested rim hikes, and sleeping under a star filled
sky. On this off–the–beaten path adventure we travel along the rim and
sometimes below, getting an extraordinary feeling of what the Grand Canyon has to
offer.
Itinerary - The final itinerary may change due to weather or any unforeseen
circumstance(s).
Day 1:
Depart Flagstaff early for your scenic drive through Northern Arizona. Along the
way we will stop for a hike down Cathedral Wash, a narrow side canyon that takes
you to the Colorado River, at the bottom of Grand Canyon. You will see the many
colorful layers of the Painted Desert, the Navajo Reservation, Vermillion Cliffs
and Marble Canyon before climbing from the desert, onto the forested Kaibab Plateau.
This day ends at camp, with a short walk from overlooking the Grand Canyon for sunset.
(3 – 5 miles of hiking) (L) (D)
Day 2:
After an early breakfast we are off for a full day of exploring. You will travel
by vehicle to Swamp Point where you start your hike at the North Bass Trailhead.
This hike will take you out to the Powell Plateau- an expansive plateau set as an
island off the North rim. Teddy Roosevelt frequented this area and his cabin remains.
There is also evidence of a rich pre-history on the plateau. The possibility for
hiking is endless. Total elevation loss and gain- 929 feet. (3-20+ miles of hiking)
(B) (L) (D)
Day 3:
Today’s journey will begin early as we drive to the Kaibab Plateau, or depending on the weather, and time of year, spend another full day exploring the endless terrain of the Marble Canyon region. In either case you are looking at a full day of fun hiking, and amazing views. There is history to rediscover, as well as trails, and routes to be traveled. If we have good weather, dinner will be served on the rim of Marble Canyon. Enjoy a sunset, watch the stars appear, and relax around the campfire. (6-20+ miles of hiking) (B) (L) (D)
Day 4:
An early start will allow enough time for the guide to pack up camp and get you
below the rim one last time. A trip down the famous North Kaibab Trail will offer
some breathtaking views, as well as a challenging hike. One will have some time
to reflect on the incredible trip they have had the last few days from such vista
points as Coconino Overlook and the Supai Tunnel. About 5 miles of hiking – (B)
(L)
A fifth day will allow more time to explore other trails such as Cliff Springs,
Transept Canyon, Saddle Mountain, or Komo Point Trail.
