Machu Picchu Lodge-Based Trek with Short Inca Trail & Rainbow Mountain

Four Season Guides

Trip Description

Discover Peru’s breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and ancient history on this 7-day lodge-based adventure that combines the highlights of the Sacred Valley, the Short Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu, and a spectacular day hike to Rainbow Mountain.

Your journey begins in Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire, where centuries of history are preserved in temples, fortresses, and lively markets. From there, explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas — visiting traditional weaving communities, the terraced salt mines of Maras, and the mysterious agricultural ruins of Moray. Each evening, return to the comfort of carefully selected lodges and boutique hotels, where warm beds, hearty meals, and Peruvian hospitality await.

The highlight of the adventure comes on Day 4, when you board the train to KM 104 and set out on the Short Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu. This one-day trek is the perfect introduction to Peru’s most iconic trail, winding past the ruins of Wiñayhuayna before reaching the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) for your unforgettable first view of Machu Picchu. After descending to Aguas Calientes for the night, you’ll return the next morning for a guided exploration of the citadel itself.

Your adventure continues with an exhilarating hike to the striking landscapes of Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) and the lesser-visited Red Valley, a true Andean highlight at over 16,000 feet.

With all accommodations, transportation, meals, permits, and expert local guides included, this trip is ideal for travelers seeking a rewarding Peru adventure that blends cultural discovery, world-class trekking, and comfort along the way.
